Jackson, N.J. (3/28/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team opened a three game weekend series with the Lions of Georgain Court University University this afternoon.
The series opened with a doubleheader where the Chargers took game one but the Lions bounced back to win game two.
After the split, the Chargers now hold a record of 12-13 and a CACC record of 8-5. The Lions now stand at 4-19 overall and 2-9 in the CACC.
Game One: Charger starting pitcher AJ Mitchell tossed six innings of one run ball while surrendering three hits and earned seven strikeouts. With the win, Mitchell picks up his first of the year and improves to 1-1.
After the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Dominican rallied for four runs in the top half of the second highlighted by a two-run homer by Jaden Maia and a two-RBI double by Fraelyn Rosario.
Kevin Hirsch smoked his 10th homer on the season in the third followed by a sac fly in the fifth and a two-run homer in the seventh by Davin Keddell-Tuckey pushed the lead to 8-1.
Byron Arias singled in two runs in the seventh to extend the Charger lead to 10-1.
The Lions rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning and cut the Charger lead to 10-6, but Josh Harrison threw a scoreless ninth inning to complete the game one victory.
Game Two: Dominican jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Chargers got on the board after a wild pitch and a sac fly by Hirsch made the score 2-0.
An RBI-double by Maia and an RBI-single by AJ Giannetti capped off the four run first inning.
Chad Falcon singled in the Chargers' fifth run in the second inning.
The Lions fought back with three runs in the third inning and a seven run rally gave GCU a 10-5 lead.
An RBI-double by Rosario and Hirsch's second sac fly of the game in the sixth inning cut the GCU lead to 10-7.
The Lions added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth before Rosario doubled for a second time in the game to cut the lead back to three runs.
Ryan Basham closed out the 1.2 save while GCU starter Samir Lopez picke dup the win.
The Chargers and the Lions wrap up the weekend series tomorrow afternoon with a single game from Clover Stadium at 12:00 PM.
