Pomona, N.Y. (4/2/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell in both games of a CACC doubleheader this afternoon to the Caldwell University Cougars at Clover Stadium.
The Cougars take the season series 2-1 after sweepoing the twinbill and improved to 7-16 overall and 6-12 in the CACC.
The Chargers fall to 13-17 overall and 9-8 in conference play.
Game One: The Cougars offense started the game off hot scoring six runs in the first three innings.
A two-RBI double by Kevin Hirsch got the Chargers on the board but a Chirs Hopf homer and a Devon Cass RBI-single pushed the CU lead back to six.
Erick Diaz homered for the Chargers in the fifth inning and Byron Arias drove in a run in the eighth but the Cougars completed the 14-4 game one victory in eight innings.
Diaz added a stolen base while Hirsch finished with two doubles.
Johnathan Gambone picked up the win going five innings while AJ Mitchell suffered the loss.
Game Two: Game two of the doubleheader was scoreless through the first two innings.
Caldwell got on the board first after scratching across a run on a wild pitch and then a sac fly by Stephen Young Jr. followed by an RBI-single by Justin Levine made it 3-0 CU.
Domincian answered with an RBI-single by Diaz who later scored on a double by Fraelyn Rosario to cut the defeicit to 3-2.
A Diaz RBI-double tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning.
The Cougars loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning and a bases clearing double by Jimmy Turchi put CU back on top 6-3.
CU starting pitcher Vinny Sangataldo capped off a complete game victory for his second win of the season as the Cougars took game two by a score of 6-3.
DU starting pitcher Tanner MacLean tossed 5.1 innings striking out eight and surrendered four earned runs.
The Chargers return to action next Tuesday when they visit Mercy University.
