RALLY FALLS SHORT AS MAVERICKS DEFEAT CHARGERS
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (4/7/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team suffered a 14-13 loss to host, Mercy University, in non-conference actio played today at Mercy Field.
Following the game, the Chargers now stand at 13-19 overall.
Dominican scored a run on a sacrifice fly ball off the bat of Fraelyn Rosario in the top of the first for the early advantage, but Mercy scored three runs in their half of the inning to go ahead 3-1.
The Chargers re-took the lead in the second as they scored three runs on an infield RBI single by Jean Nunez, a Mercy throwing error and another sacrifice fly from Rosario to make the score 4-3. MU rallied once again in the bottom of the inning with four runs for a 7-4 advantage.
A three-run top of the fourth inning by DUNY re-tied the score at 7-7. Jaden Maia got the scoring going with a sacrifice fly ball and later Kevin Hirsch delivered an RBI double down the left field line. The third run came in on the RBI single to center field by Chad Falcon.
Jean Nunez regained the edge for the Chargers with a sacrifice fly ball to right field in the top of the fifth, but the Mavericks once again rallied with a run in the bottom of the fifth to re-built a 9-8 lead.
Mercy tacked on five more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 14-8. Dominican scored two runs in the eighth on a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 14-10. They added three runs in their final at-bat on the bases loaded walk and a two-run single to center field off the bat of Hirsch for the 14-10 final.
Hirsch led the way offensively with four hits and three RBIs in the loss.
Diaz, Falcon, Nunez and Davin Keddell-Tuckey had two hits each.
Reliever Jeuriz Polanco took the loss in one and 2/3 innings of work.
