PURPLE KNIGHTS WIN OFFENSIVE BATTLE AGAINST CHARGERS
Pomona, N.Y. (4/14/26) The University of Bridgeport baseball team rallied from a 9-3 deficit to defeat the Dominican University New York Chargers, 16-11, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at Clover Stadium.
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 15-23 overall and 11-13 in conference play.
Designated hitter Kevin Hirsch got the scoring going in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to left center field. Jaden Maia followed with a RBI sacrifice fly ball for the 2-0 lead.
UB rallied in the top of the second with three runs, but the Chargers countered with a five-run bottom of the second.to re-take a 7-3 advantage. AJ Giannetti scored on wild pitch and two batters later, Erick Diaz blasted a three-run home run to right field. Later Chad Falcon had an RBI groundout.
Dominican added two runs in the third stanza on a wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Davin Keddell-Tuckey to increase the lead to 9-3.
The Purple Knights added two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to re-tie the game at 9-9.
An RBI single to center from Giannetti and a sacrifice fly by Keddell-Tuckey gave DUNY the 11-9 edge, but a six-run top of the eighth lifted the Purple Knights to the 16-11 lead and eventual win.
Reliever Yanka Pineda Santana took the loss.
Keddell-Tuckey went 3-3 with two RBIs in the loss.
Giannetti and Byron Arias had two hits each.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host non-conference opponent, Molloy University.
