BRIDGEPORT AND DOMINICAN WIN ON DAY ONE OF 3RD ANNUAL JIM CLANCY TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, NY (1/2/09) The University of Bridgeport and host Dominican College each won their first round games of the 3rd Annual Jim Clancy Tournament held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The Purple Knights fought back after being down 43-39 at the intermission to defeat Post University, 77-68, while the Chargers defeated Queens College, 76-62 in the night cap.

Orangeburg, NY (1/2/09) The University of Bridgeport and host Dominican College each won their first round games of the 3rd Annual Jim Clancy Tournament held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The Purple Knights fought back after being down 43-39 at the intermission to defeat Post University, 77-68, while the Chargers defeated Queens College, 76-62 in the night cap.
In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to ten point leads twice in the first half en route to the 43-39 advantage at the break. Freshman Brandon Romain (Brooklyn, NY) came off the bench to lead all scorers with 15 points, while Purple Knight starter Teairez Stennis (St. Louis, MO) netted 13 points and four boards in the first half.
In the second half Post lead 59-51 with 12:05 to go when the Purple Knights went on a 8-0 tear to knot the game at 59-59. The Eagles regained a four point lead, but Queens once again rallied and went ahead for good 64-63 with 6:23 left in the game as they went on to the 77-68 win.
Stennis led UB with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Steve Martin (Philadelphia, PA) netted 14 points and six caroms in the win. Demetrious Phillips (Baltimore, MD) and Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, PA) each added 10 points a piece in the win.
Romain led the Eagles with 18 points, while AJ Reitter (Baltimore, MD) scored 13 points and a team leading eight rebounds in the loss. Cecil Stinson (Montclair, NJ) netted 11 points.
University of Bridgeport improved to 6-3 with the victory, while Post fell to 4-5 on the season.
In the second game, the Knights and Chargers seesawed back and forth in the first half as they lead changed hands five times. DC took a 22-20 lead with 3:31 left en route to the 28-24 halftime lead.
The Chargers never trailed in the second half and held a 50-37 lead with 11:02 left in the game as they cruised to the 76-62 victory.
Junior forward Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) led the team with a game high 22 points. Senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) netted 20 points, while Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) led the team with five assists.
Junior Khaleef Allicott (Brooklyn, NY) led the Knights with 16 points, while Lamont Lans (Spring Valley, NY) scored 11 points and a team leading nine rebounds and Edil Lacayo (Bronx, NY) had 10 points in the loss.
With the victory Dominican improved to 5-6 overall, while the Knights drop to 2-9.
In tomorrow's action Queens College will take on Post University at 4pm while the University of Bridgeport will square off against Dominican College at 6pm on the final day of the 3rd Annual Jim Clancy Tournament on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
