POST UNIVERSITY AND UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT CLOSE OUT 3RD ANNUAL JIM CLANCY MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT WITH VICTORIES
Orangeburg, NY (1/3/09) The University of Bridgeport and Post University each won their games on the final day of the 3rd Annual Jim Clancy Mens Basketball Tournament being held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The Eagles of Post University soared past the Knights of Queens College, 88-77, while the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport squeaked by host Dominican College 76-74.

The Eagles of Post University soared past the Knights of Queens College, 88-77, while the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport squeaked by host Dominican College 76-74.
Post University dominated the first game as they shot 18-29 (62.1%) from the floor in the first half as they cruised to a 48-26 lead. Three Eagles players were in double figures after the first stanza while shooting 55.0% (11-20) from three point land.The Eagles never trailed in the game, although the Knights outscored Post in the second stanza 47-40, as they went on ot eh 88-73 victory.
Queens was led by freshman guard Emil Lacayo (Bronx, NY) who led all scorers 19 points. Forward Mike Liander (Elmhurst, NY) netted 15 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds, while Lamont Lans (Spring Valley, NY) contributed 11 points off the bench in the loss.
Senior forward Omar Robinson (Brooklyn, NY) led four Post players in double-figures with 18 points. Brandon Romain (Brooklyn, NY) scored 16 points while Cecil Stinson (Montclair, NJ) had 14 points, shooting 4-8 from beyond the three point line, and Rob McClain (Waterbury, CT) netted 10 points.
With the win Post improves to 5-5 overall while Queens falls to 2-10 on the season.
Dominican College opened up the second game with a 14-4 lead, but Bridgeport fought back to pull within a point, 24-23 with 9:00 left in the first half. UB ended the first half with a 17-11 run to take a 41-34 lead.In the second half UB jumped out to an 10 point advantage, 51-41 with 16:18 left in the game when DC charged ahead with a 10-0 run, capped off by a layup from senior guard Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) to tie the game at 51-51 with 13:57 left.
The Purple Knights once again built up a nine pont lead, 66-75 with 1:54 to go, but the Chargers fought back to pull within one point 74-75 with 0:34 second left in regulation. After a Charger time out, the team got the ball to shooter Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) for a three point attempt which hit the rim and fell into the hands of senior Dato Sakvarelidze (Tbilisi, GA). Sakvarelidze last second shot did not go in as UB won 76-74.
Sophomore Kris Knez (Astoria, NY) led the Chargers as he exploded for 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) scored 15 points, while Davis finished with 13 points and a team leading five assists.
UB was led by Dave Boykin (White Plains, NY) with a game leading 23 points, shooting 7-14 from the floor. Senior Teairez Stennis (St. Louis, MO) netted the game's only double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Purple Knights improved to 7-3 overall with the win, while the Chargers fall to 5-7 on the year.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they host Felician College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Game time is set for 8pm.
