CHARGERS BASKETBALL RALLY TO DEFEAT FELICIAN COLLEGE GOLDEN FALCONS
Orangeburg, NY (1/8/09) Trailing 39-34 at halftime, the Dominican College men's basketball team used a 48 point second half to defeat the visiting Golden Falcons from Felician College, 82-72 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (1/8/09) Trailing 39-34 at halftime, the Dominican College men's basketball team used a 48 point second half to defeat the visiting Golden Falcons from Felician College, 82-72 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Chargers charged out to start the second half with a 10-2 run, capped off by an three point play (basket plus foul) by senior forward Dato Sakvarelidze (Tblisi, GA) as DC took a two point lead, 44-42. Felician regained a three point advantage with 16:16 left in regulation and both teams battled back and forth over the next seven minutes until the Chargers used a jumper from freshman Mike Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) to take a 59-57 lead and never looked backed, leading by as many as 15 points, en route to the 82-72 victory.
Sakvarelidze led two Chargers in double figures with a season high 21 points. Senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) netted 17 points and tied for a team leading eight rebounds with senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) who finished the game with eight points.
The Golden Falcons were ledy by junior forward Ethan Kennedy (Albuqerque, NM) who came off the bench to net 16 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) scored 13 points, while forward Kashiff Foster (Somerset, NJ) led the team with eight rebounds in the loss.
With the victory Dominican improves to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while Felician falls to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they host Goldey-Beacom College in CACC men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court. Tip-off is slated for 3pm from the Hennessy Center.
