GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE RALLIES TO DEFEAT DOMINICAN BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, NY (1/11/09) In a physical game that saw 53 fouls and seven technical fouls called, Goldey-Beacom College rallied from a 34-28 halftime deficit to defeat host Dominican College, 79-67 this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Orangeburg, NY (1/11/09) In a physical game that saw 53 fouls and seven technical fouls called, Goldey-Beacom College rallied from a 34-28 halftime deficit to defeat host Dominican College, 79-67 this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Dominican was able to gain a ten point advantage (33-23) with 2:00 minutes left in the first half behind two free throws from sophomore Kris Knez (Astoria, NY). GBC closed the first half 5-1 run to cut the lead to 34-28 at the break.
GBC knotted the game at 36-36 with 16:09 to go on a three point shot by Darrell Johnson (Wilmington, DE) and took a two point lead thirty seconds later on a good jumper by Johnson. DC fought back with an 13-4 run to regain a 57-50 lead with just under six minutes left in the game.
The Lightning came back to tie the game with 3:24 to go at 59-59 and both teams battled back and forth with the lead. GBC led 69-67 with two seconds to go when a questionable turnover was called on Dominican by an official. After the call there were four technical fouls called against Dominican which put Azeez Ellegood (Wilmington, DE) at the line converted ten free throws as they went on to the 79-67 win.
Kyle White (Georgetown, DE) led four GBC players in double figures with 21 points and a team leading seven rebounds. Sam McDuffie (Bordentown, NJ) netted 18 points, while Adrian Miles (Washington, DC) scored 17 points and four steals. Ellegood finished with 12 points.
Senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) led all scorers with 24 points and had six caroms in the loss. Knez recorded 12 points and a game leading eight boards off the bench.
With the win GBC improves to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the CACC while the Chargers fall to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bloomfield College in CACC men's action. Game time is slated for 8pm.
