CHARGERS BASKETBALL SNAP FOUR GAME LOSING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (1/27/09) The Dominican College men's basketball team snapped a four game losing streak in front of a packed crowd at the Hennessy Center as they defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Nyack College, 68-54, this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Orangeburg, NY (1/27/09) The Dominican College men's basketball team snapped a four game losing streak in front of a packed crowd at the Hennessy Center as they defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Nyack College, 68-54, this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Tied 15-15 with 9:40 to go in the first half the Chargers went on a 14-1 tear to take a 29-16 lead with just under five minutes remaining before the break. Nyack ended the first stanza with a 9-4 advantage to cut the lead to 33-27 at halftime.
The Warriors started things off in the second half with a 7-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 35-34, but back to back treys by senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) gave Dominican a seven point lead and they never looked back in charging to the 68-54 victory.
Senior forward Stedford McLeod (Bronx, NY) led the Warriors and all scorers with 22 points in the loss. Senior guard Valiant Jones (Los Angeles, CA) netted 14 points, a game leading four steals, and seven rebounds, while Aundrae Williams (St. Louis, MO) had a game leading nine caroms.
Sophomore forward Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) came off the bench to lead the Chargers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Senior Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) scored 12 points and seven boards, while Carty finished with 12 points.
With the victory Dominican improves to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 6-13 overall and 3-5 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they host Caldwell College in CACC men's action. Tip-off is slated for 8pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
