DOMINICAN CHARGERS UPEND CALDWELL COLLEGE IN OVERTIME
Orangeburg, NY (1/29/09) The Dominican College men's basketball team scored 11 points in overtime to upend visiting Caldwell College, 77-73 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the first five minutes of action and held a lead until the 5:42 mark when a layup by senior Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) tied the game at 26-26. A three point bucket by Dante Rollins (East Orange, NJ) put the Cougars up by one but DC closed out the half with a 7-2 run to take a 33-31 lead into the intermission.
The Chargers quickly jumped out to a 10 point lead 42-32 early in the second half and led 64-58 with 4:13 to go when the Cougars closed out regulation with an 8-2 run, capped off by two free throws from Perez, to tie the game at 66-66.
In overtime Caldwell took a 67-66 lead on a free throw by Perez but the Chargers quickly regained the lead on a bucket by Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) and the and one from the charity stripe. DC led by five, 76-71 with 0:33 to go and held on for teh 77-73 victory.
Perez led Caldwell with a game leading 24 points and a team leading eight rebounds in the loss. Malcolm Austin (Albany, NY) came off the bench to net 15 points and six rebounds in the loss.
The Chargers had three players in double figures led by senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) with a team leading 23 points, five assists and had six rebounds. Matchett finished with 13 points and eight caroms in 29 minutes and senior forward Abdul Sulaiman (Bronx, NY) had the game's only double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Dominican improves to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the CACC.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in CACC men's action. Tip-off is slated for 3pm.
