The Vulcans held a 40-30 lead at the intermission after shooting 44.8% (13-29) for the half, to Dominican's 41.4% (12-29). In the second half UHH shot 57.1% (20-35), while the DC shot 42.4% (16-37). The Chargers shot 46.7% (7-15) from beyond the three point arc, while the Vulcans shot 33.3% (7-21) for the game.
Freshman guard Wayne Cottle (Montclair, NJ) led the Chargers with 15 points, shooting 3-5 from the three point arc. Senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) netted 12 points and had three assists. Junior Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) scored nine points and grabbed five caroms, while senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) contributed nine points and two steals off the bench. Freshman Elliot Watson (Peekskill, NY) had a game leading four blocks in the loss.
The Vulcans were led by senior Jay DeMaestri (Mill Valley, CA) with a double-double of 22 points and 11 boards. Senior guard John Smith (Berkeley, CA) netted 20 points, while Charlando Brown (Los Angeles, CA) had 11 points and two steals. Forward Jacob Briggs (Burbank, CA) scored 10 points, while Brandon Price (Redlands, CA) had a game leading 15 rebounds.
With the win the Vulcans improve to 4-1 overall, while the Chargers drop to 4-5 overall.
Dominican is back in action on Friday when they face Chaminade University at 7:30 pm.
