Honolulu, HI (12/19/08) The Chaminade University men's basketball team turned back the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 89-69 this evening in a non-conference game at the McCabe Gymanisum in Honolulu, HI.
Honolulu, HI (12/19/08) The Chaminade University men's basketball team turned back the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 89-69 this evening in a non-conference game at the McCabe Gymanisum in Honolulu, HI.
The Swords opened up the game with a 18-6 run and never looked back as they went into the intermission with a 44-31 lead. Chaminade shot 56.0% (14-25) from the floor in the first half, while the Chargers struggled, shooting just 30.3% (10-33).
The Swords continued to dominate the offensive end of the game as they tacked on 45 points in the second half en route to theh 89-69 lead. For the game, CUH shot 50.9% (29-57) from the floor, while DC shot 44.1% (26-59). Chaminade also out rebounded Dominican 48-24.
Chaminade was led by Mohamed Tangera who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Joel Smith and Darrell Birton who each chipped in 17 points, while Jamar Berry had nine points and nine rebounds.
Dominican was led by senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) with 24 points and three assists. Senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) contributed 17 points and four boards in the loss.
With the victory Chaminade improves to 3-5 overall, while Dominican falls to 4-6 on the year.
DC is back in action on January 2nd when they host the 3rd Annual Jim Clancy Tournament on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Dominican will face Queens College at 6pm.
