The Chargers took advantage in the first ten minutes of the game of 10 Cougar turnovers to take a 19-3 lead and later closed out the half with 10-4 run to take a commanding 41-22 lead at the break. DC shot 16-30 (53.3%) from the floor in the first stanza with sophomore Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) leading the team with 10 points, while Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) and rookie Nick Smith (Middletown, NY) added six points and seven points respectively off the bench.
Dominican extended their lead to as many as 20 points early in the second half, but the Cougars were able to cut the lead to as close as 10 points (71-61) with just under a minute to play. DC went 5-5 from the charity stripe over the last 0:56 of play with guards Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) going 3-3 and Porter shooting 2-2 to secure the victory.
Porter led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 3-6 from the three point arc, and tallied five assists and five rebounds. Senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) had the team's only double-double with 10 points and 10 caroms and had a team leading three blocks.
Calzonetti and Smith combined for 17 points off the bench, while sophomore Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) scored seven points and six rebounds.
DC returns to action on Saturday, December 18th when they take part in the ECAC Holiday Classic hosted by Caldwell College. The Chargers will face New York Institute of Technology at 3pm.
