MEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (2/25/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team closed out the first half with a 20-4 run and stayed hot to start the second half with a 20-11 tear as they defeated the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 83-73, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game held on Coach Baxter Court on Senior Night.

Before the game began, the Chargers honored the lone senior, Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) in a ceremony.
Down 35-28 with 6:31 left in the first half, the Dominican offense exploded with a 20-4 run, capped off by a Gerald Hill (Gwynn Oak, MD) trey to end the first half with a 39-48 lead.
DC stayed hot in the second half as they outscored the Lightning, 20-11, in the first 10:07 of the second half to go ahead by 18 points (68-50) with rookie Nick Smith (Middletown, NY) going 5-6 from the charity stripe to complete a 40-15 run that spanned 16:38 of play. GBC would never be able to cut the deficit to single digits as the Chargers went on to the 83-73 victory.
Hodzic led three Chargers in double figures as he tallied his 11th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) scored 19 points (going 5-7 from the three point arc), while forward Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) was hot off the bench, shooting 6-6 from the floor and finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Chargers finished the game, shooting 29-55 (52.7%) from the floor, were 8-13 (61.5%) from the three point line and were 17-21 (81.0%) from the free throw line.
With the win Dominican ends the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and a 12-6 CACC record.
Dominican has earned the third seed in the North Division and will take on the second-seeded Eagles of Post University in a CACC Quarter-Final game to be played on Tuesday evening at 7pm in Waterbury, CT.
