CHARGERS UPEND LIONS
Rockville Centre, N.Y. (11/19/25) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team upended host, Molloy University, 89-85, this evening in a non-conference game played at Bob Houlihan Gymnasium.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season.
A Javel Cherry layup with 12:16 remaining in the first half gave DUNY their biggest lead of the game at 23-16, but the Lions roared back by going on a 15-4 run to claim a 31-27 advantage with 9:03 left in the half. With the game later tied at 39-all with 3:32 to go, the Chargers went on an 8-2 tear to pull ahead 47-41 with a minute and a half on the clock. Molloy closed out the half with two free throws to cut the Charger lead to 47-43 at the intermission.
Dominican would lead by as many as ten points (66-56) on a Chance Morrish jumper early in the second half and would hold a 71-65 advantage with 11:23 on the clock, when Molloy countered with a 10-2 run to retake a 75-73 edge with under nine minutes to go. Koi D. Kirk, Jr would ice back-to-back free throws with 2:04 to go to tie the score and would later add another with 54 ticks left to give Dominican the 85-84 edge. The Chargers would close out the game by going 2-4 from the charity stripe for the 89-85 victory.
Kirk, Jr. led five Chargers in double figures with 18 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Key'Sean Maynard and Cherry finished with 13 points a-piece, while Maynard pull down seven caroms, three assists and four steals.
Guard Elijah Peters and Morrish recorded 10 points each with Morrish dishing out a team best six assists and Peters having four steals in the win.
Senior Isaiah Honis led the team with five steals to go along with seven points. Juelz Dickerson and Reginald Dillard had nine points each.
The Chargers return to action next Tuesday evening as they host Holy Family University in their home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener.
