MEN'S BASKETBALL TURNS BACK TIGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/25/25) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team opened up conference play with a 79-74 victory over the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, Dominican improvses to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
A Tiger three-point basket gave HFU a 20-11 lead with 11:47 left in the first half, but Dominican went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 22-20. Later with the score tied at 39-all the Chargers closed out the half on an 8-2 run to push ahead 47-41.
Senior Javel Cherry led all scorers in the first half with 14 points (4-8 from the three-point arc), while Key'Sean Maynard had 12 points, going a perfect 4-4 from the arc.
The Chargers would never trail in the second half and would lead by as many as 12 points (57-45) on a Michael O'Mahony layup early in the half. HFU would rally and cut the deficit to three points three times in the half, but Koi D. Kirk, Jr. would make it a two possession contest with 20 seconds to go with a layup to lead them to the 79-74 win.
Morrish finished with a game best 19 points (6-8 from the charity stripe), six rebounds and three assists.
Cherry finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while Maynard scored 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in the win.
Senior Isaiah Honis tallied 10 points and five assists, while Reginald Dillard also had five assists, four steals and five points.
Dominican returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Goldey-Beacom College.
