MEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES TO DEFEAT UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/14/26) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team ralled from a ten-point first half deficit to defeat the University of Bridgeport, 56-54, this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Bridgeport led 20-10 with under ten minutes left in the first half when Dominican charged back into the game with 15 unanswered points to push ahead 25-20. Chance Morrish would put DUNY ahead 28-26 with 39 seconds left in the half, but a UB layup with nine ticks left re-tied the game at 28-all at the intermission.
UB would lead 49-45 with 7:25 to go in regulation when once again the Chargers rallied, this time by going on a 9-4 run to claim a 54-52 lead with 1:21 to play. Following a Purple Knight basket, both Morrish and Key'Sean Maynard went 1-2 from the charity stripe in the final 44 seconds to bring home the 56-54 win and break their six-game losing streak.
Sophomore guard Elijah Peters led the Chargers with the team's only double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals.
Tyler Edore and Koi D. Kirk, Jr. scored eight points each and combined with 16 rebounds (9 for Kirk and 7 for Edore). Edore had three blocks in the win.
Morrish finished the game with seven points.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Thomas Jefferson University. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 pm.
