CHARGERS EDGED BY TIGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/24/26) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team was edged by CACC opponent Holy Family University this afternoon.
Both teams battled down the stretch, but the Tigers came away with the 83-78 victory.
Dominican falls to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
The Chargers finished the game shooting 53.5% from the field while adding seven field goals from beyond the arc. Dominican added 25 total points from the charity stripe while cashing in 32 points in the paint and 13 points off of HFU turnovers.
Both teams traded baskets in the first 10 minutes of the second half with four points being the largest lead by either team.
Dominican jumped ahead by four points, but a 10-0 run by the Tigers gave HFU a six point lead with 9:25 left to play.
Both teams continued to trade baskets down the stretch of the second half. With time winding down, Omarion Jett hit a jumper to put the Tigers ahead 75-74 with 1:27 remaining.
Trailing by four, Javel Cherry hit a three-pointer to pull the Chargers within one point with 11 ticks left. The Tigers added four points on free-throws and completed the 83-78 victory.
The Chargers were led by Koi D. Kirk, Jr. and Elijah Peters who each finished with 17 points. Isaiah Honis added 15 points while sharing a team-high seven boards and dished out a team-high six assists. Kirk picked up four boards, five assists, and three steals while Peters added four boards and nine points off free-throws.
Cherry finished the game with 11 points while Key'Sean Maynard scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Dominican returns to action when they take on non-conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday night.
