MEN'S BASKETBALL TURNED AWAY BY LIGHTNING
Wilmington, Del. (1/31/26) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team was turned away by the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in CACC action.
The Lightning built an early double digit lead which stood for most of the game as they secured the 104-96 victory and improved to 15-6 overall and 9-4 in the CACC. After the loss, the Chargers fall to 8-12 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
GBC's largest lead of the game in the opening half was 16 points and led by 10 points by halftime. The Lightning extended to their largest lead of the game in the second half which was 19 points.
Dominican punched back using a 21-7 run over the next four minutes of play to cut the deficit to 85-80 with 6:20 left.
The Lightning answered by extending their lead back to double digits as they secured the win.
The Chargers finished the game shooting 51.7% from the field and went 23-30 from the charity stripe.
Koi D. Kirk, Jr. and Elijah Peters combined for 40 points by scoring 20 points each. Kirk added 14 points from the free-throw line while adding six boards and two assists. Peters shot 7-11 from the floor while adding one three-pointer and went 5-6 on free-throws. Peters picked up a team-high seven boards and added two assists, two steals, and one block.
Key'Sean Maynard and Donte Howard provided a boost off the bench combining for 31 points which included Howard going 5-7 from three-point range and Maynard finished 4-6 from long distance.
Isaiah Honis scored 12 points while adding six boards and dished out a team-high 10 assists which is a career high.
The Chargers return home this Tuesday when they host Caldwell University for a CACC contest on Coach Baxter Court at 7:30 PM.
