HONIS NETS HIS 1000TH CAREER POINT AS DOMINICAN TOPS LIONS ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/21/26) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team topped the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 74-63, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played on Coach Baxter Court.
Today the team celebrated senior day and honored: #4 Isaiah Honis, #5 Michael O'Mahony, #11 Javel Cherry and #24 Koi D. Kirk, Jr. in a pre-grame ceremony.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 12-14 overall and 9-9 in the CACC.
Dominican held their biggest lead of the game (29-8) with 7:41 to play in the first half, but the Lions roared back into the contest as they closed out the first half on a 22-4 run to cut the lead to 33-30 at the intermission.
GCU continued the run by starting the second stanza on an 8-2 spurt to give them a 38-35 edge, but seven staright Charger points regained the lead, 46-42. GCU led 54-53 at the 7:58 mark, however the Chargers charged back with an 11-2 run to rebuild a double-digit lead, 66-56, with a little over three minutes to go.
Honis reached the 1000 mark plateau with 1:19 to play on a dunk that made the score 70-60.
Fellow senior Cherry led the Chargers with 15 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore Elijah Peters netted 14 points, while Kirk recorded the game's only double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Honis finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists in the win and Dimitre Alston added seven points and five caroms.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Post University.
