Coach Anthony Toapha is entering his 29th year on the Dominican University Men’s Basketball Charger staff as the Associate Head Basketball Coach. He is a Dominican College graduate, earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1985. A four-year member, and 2-year captain, of the Chargers Basketball Team (1980-1984), Toapha was a member of the of the first team to advance to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament and was inducted into the Dominican University Hall of Fame in 1997, as a member of the 1980-81 team. He was inducted into the Dominican University Athletic Hall of Fame again for service in 2010. He was also inducted in 2010 and 2015, as an assistant coach with the 1999-00 and 2000-01 teams.

Coach Toapha is also 2000 recipient of the Rockland County Coaches Association Service award for coaching. In 2002, Coach Toapha was awarded the Dominican College 50th Anniversary Medal for his significant impact on the athletic program. And a 2011 recipient of the Steve Baxter Service Award. In 2025, Coach Toapha was awarded the Joe Clinton Charger Cup award.

Coach Toapha resides in Chestnut Hill, NY. Where he grew up and attended Spring Valley Senior HS. Coach Toapha, while attending Spring Valley HS, was a 2-year Varsity Boys’ Basketball team member. Winning the Section #9 Championship in 1978-79. And went undefeated in Rockland County the following season. Going 21-0, and winning the Rockland County Boys’ Basketball Championship.

Coach Toapha worked 28 ½ years for the NYCTA and recently retired in Feb. 2025.
