CHARGERS LACROSSE END SEASON WITH LOSS TO MOLLOY COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (5/2/09) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2009 season with an East Coast Conference (ECC) loss to the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 16-9 this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Orangeburg, NY (5/2/09) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2009 season with an East Coast Conference (ECC) loss to the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 16-9 this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Molloy (10-3, 3-3 ECC) opened up the game with a 4-0 run but Charger attacker Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) netted a goal off a pass from senior Frank Vermeylen (Elmwood, NJ) to put Dominican on the board. The Lions rounded out the first quarter and began the second quarter with a 3-0 run and had a 7-1 lead when freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 7-2.
A 5-0 spurt by MC built up a 12-2 lead when the Chargers netted three unanswered goals. Junior midfielder Christopher Jones (Saugerties, NY) netted an unassisted goal, followed by a goal by Sutherland off the dish by Arcaro and Arcaro netted his second goal of the game.
MC went on another run, this time with three straight goals to regain a sizable lead at 15-5 to close out the third quarter. Arcaro netted the hatrick with his third goal of the game to start off the fourth quarter, followed by Molloy's last goal of the game. DC closed out the game with a 3-0 run as Sutherland netted his own hatrick with his third goal off the assist by junior Michael Flynn (Ronkonkoma, NY). Freshman Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) scored his first goal of the game and Arcaro netted the last Charger goal of the season off the dish by sophomore Dave Marrese (Winnipeg, MB) for the final 16-9 Lion victory.
Arcaro led the team with five points (four goals, one assist), while Sutherland finished with three points (three goals). Sophomore goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) had 22 saves in over 45 minutes of action. Sophomore Tim Manzella (Riverhead, NY) had six saves in the final 14:15.
With the loss Dominican ends the season with a 2-12 overall record and an ECC record of 0-6.
