DOMINICAN MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER SELECTED TO PLAY FOR DUTCH NATIONAL TEAM
Orangeburg, NY (3/12/1) Dominican College midfeilder Alex Jones, has been selected to play for Team Holland in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships this summer in Manchester, England. Jones a junior from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada is Dominicans first player to be named All-Conference, as well as holding the record for goals in a single season. Joness other Dominican accomplishments include team rookie of the year and offensive player of the year as a freshman. As a sophomore he again led the chargers in goals, and was chosen as offensive player of the year.

Jones’s other Dominican accomplishments include team rookie of the year and offensive player of the year as a freshman. Jones is one of 4 players chosen from Canada and the United States to join the Dutch team as heritage players. Sean Tyson, a Canadian, from Vancouver who played for the Dutch in the 2006 Worlds in Canada, and the 2008 European Championships in Finland and Grant Zimmerman( 3 year letterman for the University of North Carolina) and Kyle Hofstaedter( Saint Joseph’s University) will join Jones on the 22 man International roster.
The Dutch are looking to make a impact this year after taking second place in the 2008 European championships. The team surprised the lacrosse world, defeating traditional European lacrosse powers such as Sweden, Ireland and Germany before making their appearance in the gold medal game. The success of the Dutch campaign garnered mention in major lacrosse publications and placed the Netherlands on the International lacrosse map.
The Netherlands competed in their first World Lacrosse Championships in 2006 in London, Ontario, Canada. Led by a contingent of Dutch ex-pats from North America, the Dutch national team finished with a 3-4 record at the tournament. They also made ILF history by becoming the first team to win their debut game at their first World Championships (defeating South Korea by a score of 12-4). The Netherlands finished 12th out of 21 teams.
This Year the Worlds will take place in Manchester, England, and will run from July 14, to July 24, 2010.
