MEN'S LACROSSE FALL IN DOUBLE OVERTIME TO LAKE ERIE COLLEGE
Painesville, OH (4/21/11) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team suffered a double-overtime loss to host, Lake Erie College, 8-7, in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game played this afternoon at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. With the loss Dominican falls to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play, while Lake Erie improves to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the ECC.
Painesville, OH (4/21/11) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team suffered a double-overtime loss to host, Lake Erie College, 8-7, in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game played this afternoon at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. With the loss Dominican falls to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play, while Lake Erie improves to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the ECC.
Senior midfielder Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) led the Chargers offensively with four goals on the day to give him a team leading 31 goals on the season and added one assist for five points.
Goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 17 saves in the net in the loss.
Jones put the Chargers ahead 1-0 just 1:10 seconds into the contest, but back-to-back Storm goals gave them a 2-1 lead. Attacker Andrew Rendine (River Edge, NJ) tied the game with 2:20 to play in the first period off the assist by Jones to make the score 2-2 after one period of play.
Two man-up goals by Lake Erie regained a 4-2 lead and they held a two goal advantage until the final second of the first half as Jones found the back of the net to cut the lead to 4-3.
The third period was scoreless for the first 12:37 when the Chargers struck for two consecutive goals as senior midfielder Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) recorded his 18th goal of the year and Jones followed with his third goal of the game to complete the hat trick off the assist from rookie Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) to go ahead 5-4 with 1:07 to play in the third period. Lake Erie closed out the scoring of the third period with a goal to tie the game at 5-5.
Jones started off the fourth period just as he did in the first with a goal just 48 seconds into the period to regain a 6-5 edge for the Chargers. Two goals by Lake Erie gave them a one goal lead with 3:38 to play, but freshman attacker Collin Madsen (Salt Lake City, UT) netted the game-tying goal with just 23 ticks on the clock to force overtime.
DC had three shots on goal in the first overtime but could not find the net and the Storm netted the game winner with 0:57 left in the second overtime for the 8-7 victory.
Dominican returns to action next Saturday when they host # 3 C.W. Post University in ECC action at the DC Lacrosse Field. Game time will be 1pm as the team will celebrate Senior Day.
