Bio
Coach Sheiner was hired in July of 2024 as the eight head coach in program history.
Coach Sheiner enters his second season at the helm of the Dominican University Men's Lacrosse program. Sheiner's 2025 squad finished with a 4-11 record, but new expectations are in place for 2026 which includes a talented recruiting class.
Sheiner came to Dominican University New York after spending 21 years at his alma mater Kean University. Coach Sheiner is the winningest coach in program history at KU, Sheiner amassed 223 wins and qualified for the postseason in 18 of his 21 seasons at the NCAA Division III school.
While at Kean, the Cougars made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2008, 2021), won a Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship (2021), a Skyline Conference Championship (2008) and an ECAC Metro Region Championship in 2010.
Sheiner earned one Skyline Conference Coach of the Year (2008) accolade. During his tenure at Kean, he coached 96 All-Conference selections, 11 All-American honorees, six Scholar All-American honorees, two Conference Player of the Year winners, one Conference Defensive Player of the Year winner, two Conference Rookie of the Year winners, and three Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year selections. His Defensive player of the year is current DUNY Assistant Coach Matt Palmieri.
Prior to Sheiner’s time at Kean, he spent five years (1997-2001) as the head boy’s lacrosse coach at Indian Hills High School where he led the team to back-to-back state tournament appearances and was named the New Jersey Lacrosse Coach of the Year for the Rizk Division in 2000.
The summer of 2014 saw Sheiner serve as an assistant coach for the Israel Lacrosse Association, where he helped the Israeli National Team finish seventh in the World Games. In the Spring of 2024 he was selected as the North Head Coach for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Senior All-Star Game, a coveted prestigious honor.
Sheiner was just recently inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame. He was honored on July 22nd, 2025, not only for his coaching accolades but for his numerous contributions to lacrosse in the state of New Jersey and various lacrosse programs in the Garden State. Sheiner has mentored many New Jersey high school and college coaches.
A 1995 graduate of Kean University, Sheiner earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Bachelor of Science in political science and criminal justice. In 2001, he earned his master's degree in special education/initial certification from William Paterson University. He currently resides in Fair Lawn New Jersey with his wife Kelly and their children Jacob and Sarah. Both of Sheiner's children are accomplished athletes in wrestling and lacrosse.
