MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPS SPARTANS
Sparkill, N.Y. (3/29/26) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team defeated the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 3-2, this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) play in the Spartan Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 6-16 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Spartans took the opening set, 25-21, but Dominican went on a 5-0 run to claim a 17-13 advantage in the second set. A Phinehas Wiley kill put DUNY at set point 24-21 and following a Spartan kill, Wiley recorded the set-winning kill to give the Chargers the 25-21 set win.
With the third set tied at 25-all, Wiley once again put DUNY at set point with a kill and sophomore Hunter Paio delievered a service ace to lift Dominican to a 27-25 set win and 2-1 match lead.
STAC rallied to win the fourth set, 25-19 to force the decisive fifth set. The Charger offense opened the fifth set with the first four points and never looked back en route to the 15-6 win and 3-2 match victory.
Wiley led the Chargers with 18 kills, a .382 attack percentage and seven digs in the win.
Junior Ayden Shaw finished with nine kills and 10 digs, while Tommaso Falchi also had nine kills, nine digs and four block assists.
Luke Gavin-Ruple finished with three solo blocks, four block assists and two kills.
Dominican returns to action on Friday, April 10th when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 6pm on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
