DOMINICAN SOFTBALL WIN TWO AT GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL
Lakewood, NJ(4/4/09) The Dominican College softball team won two out of three games this afternoon at the 2nd Annual Georgian Court University Invitational "Going to Bat For Breast Cancer". Dominican rallied to defeat Queens College, 11-10 and Molloy College, 11-8, but fell to New York Institute of Technology, 10-1 in the final game of the day.

Dominican rallied to defeat Queens College, 11-10 and Molloy College, 11-8, but fell to New York Institute of Technology, 10-1 in the final game of the day.
DC trailed Queens, 10-8 going into the bottom of the seventh when pinch hitter Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) drew a bases loaded walk to score a run, followed by senior Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) scoring on a wild pitch. Third basemen Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) got the game winning hit on a squeeze bunt that allowed Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) to score and lift Dominican to the 11-10 victory.
Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) picked up the win in 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing four runs on four hits.
In game two, the Lady Chargers scored runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to secure an 11-8 victory. DC pounded out 17 hits with Beck, Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA), Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) and shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) each collecting three hits a piece in the game.
Starter Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) picked up the win, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits. Reliever Garrison came in to pitch the final two innings.
Game three was all NYIT as the Bears scored 10 runs on nine hits, including a five-run first inning. The lone DC run came in the second as Beck scored on a Bear error.
Edwards suffered the loss allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Dominican now stands at 19-8 overall.
