#8 SOFTBALL SWEEPS ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/28/09) The Dominican College softball team, ranked #8 in the NCAA East Region, swept a non-conference double-header from St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon at Spartan Field. Dominican won game one 4-0 and took the second game 9-2.
Orangeburg, NY (4/28/09) The Dominican College softball team, ranked #8 in the NCAA East Region, swept a non-conference double-header from St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon at Spartan Field. Dominican won game one 4-0 and took the second game 9-2.
Dominican scored two runs in the first on a two run single by sophomore catcher, Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ), an All-CACC First Team selection. Scarillo added her third RBI of the game as she platted a run in the third with another RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. In the fourth Jessica Martinier (Tampa, FL) had an RBI groundout as DC went on to the 4-0 victory.
All CACC Second Team selection, Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 19-5 with the complete game shut out victory, scattering five hits and striking out 11 batters.
The Lady Chargers struck early in game 2 with a run in the first on the RBI single by junior Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA). DC had a five-run third inning as senior firstbasemen and All-CACC Second Team pick, Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) delivered an RBI single, followed by a two-run double by junior Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA). Thirdbasemen Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) had an RBI groundout and Martinieri had a one out RBI single to increase the lead to 6-0.
STAC answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 6-2, but the Lady Charger offense added three runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Philpot and an RBI single by shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ), an All-CACC First Team pick, as Dominican went on to the 9-2 victory.
Garrison went the distance in the win to improve to 14-3 on the year, allowing two runs on six hits and eight strikeouts.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 38-12 overall.
