#9 WOMEN'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS #5 GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, NY (4/17/10) The Dominican College softball team, ranked ninth in the latest NCAA East Region Poll, swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Georgian Court University, currently ranked fifth in the NCAA East Region, 8-0 in five innings and 7-4 at the DC Softball Field this afternoon.

Orangeburg, NY (4/17/10)  The Dominican College softball team, ranked ninth in the latest NCAA East Region Poll, swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Georgian Court University, currently ranked fifth in the NCAA East Region, 8-0 in five innings and 7-4 at the DC Softball Field this afternoon.

Dominican wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning as senior third basemen Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) broke the school's All-Time Home Run record with her 28th career home run which platted two runs and gave DC a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Chargers added two more runs in the third inning as junior catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) belted a two-run homer to extend the lead to 4-0.

DC exploded for four runs with two outs in the fifth inning for the 8-0 victory.  Designated player Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) delivered a two-run single, followed by an RBI single off the bat of left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ).  First basemen Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) got the game-ending hit with an RBI double.

Lady Charger pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) picked up the shut-out victory to improve to 9-5 on the season, scattering just four hits and striking out five batters.

In game two, GCU scored their first run of the day in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.  DC answered back with a three-run third inning to go up 3-1.  Corrao delivered a two-out, two-run single and Martinez followed with an RBI single.

The Lions cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Chargers tacked on three more runs in the bottom stanza to go up, 6-2.  Piasecki hit an RBI single with two outs and Scarillo tallied her second two-run home run of the day.

Dominican added an insurance run in the fifth on a GCU error and the Lions put two runs on the board in the sixth for the final 7-4 score.

Left-handed hurler Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) improved to 14-6 with the victory, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and five strikeouts.

With the sweep Dominican improves to 23-11 overall and 13-1 in the CACC.
