SOFTBALL CRUISES PAST POST UNIVERSITY
Waterbury, CT (4/22/10) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked seventh in the East Region, cruised to 13-0 and 10-2 victories over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Post University, today in games played at LaMoy Field.

In game one, the Lady Chargers took a 4-0 lead after two innings. In the first senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) hit an RBI double and catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) followed her with a two-run blast. The second inning saw freshman Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) deliver an RBI single.
A three-run fourth inning courtesy of a Piasecki home run extended the lead to 7-0 and DC tacked on six more runs in the fifth for the 13-0 final. In the fifth, Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) and Childers each produced two-run doubles, while a Piasecki ground ball platted another run. Scarillo hit her second home run of the game, this time a solo shot for the final run of game one.
Childers got the shut-out win (16-7), allowing five hits and recording five strikeouts.
In game two, Dominican held a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. In the first, Plante led off the game with a solo home run over the right field fence. DC added a run in the third on a home run by Childers, this one over the center field fence.
Plante added another RBI in the fourth inning with a ground out to extend the lead to 3-0. A four-run fifth inning, with Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) and Childers picking up RBI singles. Kelli Rehm (Livingston, NJ) produced an RBI sacrifice bunt and senior Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) reached on an Eagle error allowed another run to score.
The Eagles put their first runs of the day on the board in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 8-2, but Dominican answered right back in the top of the sixth on Scarillo's third home run of the day and Garrison recorded an RBI after reaching base on a Post error for the final 10-2 score.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 28-12 overall and 18-2 in the CACC.
