TOP SEEDED LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL WIN FIRST TWO GAMES AT CACC TOURNAMENT
Lakewood, NJ (5/6/10) The top-seeded Dominican College softball team advanced into the winner's bracket of the 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament today after defeating # 8, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 6-1, and # 4 Holy Family University, 4-3.

In game one against USP, Dominican jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. In the first, catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit a two out two-run blast over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead. In the second inning with two out and two runners on base, freshman shortstop Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) delivered a single to centerfield to plate two runs and extend the lead to 4-0.
USP scored their first run of the game in the sixth to make the score 4-1, but DC answered back with two more runs in the bottom stanza as sophomore left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) hit a two-run single to right-center field to lead Dominican to the 6-1 victory.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) got the complete game win, allowing one run on 10 hits to improve to 14-6 on the season.
In their second game of the day, Dominican broke a open a scoreless game with a two run fourth inning as pinch runner Jessica Syska, who came in to run for Scarillo after she reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) double, was able to score on a Tiger throwing error. Martinez followed with an RBI single to left field and give the Lady Chargers a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers answered right back with a three-run top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but once again Dominican was able to put back-to-back runs on the board to regain a 4-3 advantage and eventual victory. In the fifth, Martinez picked up her second RBI of the game with a single to left center field and center fielder Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) followed with an RBI single to left field.
Left-handed hurler Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) recorded her 21st victory of the season to improve to 21-7 on the year and break the school's season win record after allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and six strikeouts.
With the wins Dominican improves to 35-13 overall.
The top-seeded Lady Chargers will square off against the second-seeded Cougars of Caldwell College tomorrow afternoon at 2pm for the right to advance to the conference championship.
