Lakewood, NJ (5/7/10)  The top-seeded Dominican College softball team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship after defeating the second-seeded Cougars of Caldwell College, 7-2, this afternoon to remain undefeated in the tournament being held at Georgian Court University.

The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single, but the Lady Chargers answered back with two runs in the bottom stanza to take a 2-1 edge.  In the first shortstop Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) led off the inning with a walk and a one-out single by senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) put runners on the corners.  Junior catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit a key double to center field to score both runs.

Caldwell tied the contest at 2-2 with a run in the third inning, but DC platted a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Scarillo single to centerfield to regain a 3-2 advantage for the Lady Chargers.

Then in the fifth inning, Dominican exploded for four runs on four hits and an error to take a commanding 7-2 lead.  Freshman designated player, Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY), delivered a key RBI single to centerfield to start the scoring and centerfielder Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) later followed with another single to center to bring home a second run.  Corrao later came in to score on a passed ball and an RBI ground out by senior Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) brought home Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ), who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

Freshman left-handed hurler, Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH), got the win in 4 2/3 innings of relief to improve to 22-7 on the season, allowing six hits.  Starter Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

With the victory Dominican improves to 36-13 overall.

The Lady Chargers will face the winner of the elimination game between # 3 Georgian Court University and # 2 Caldwell College tomorrow at 1pm.  A second game if neccesary will follow at 3pm.
