New Castle, DE (4/17/11) The # 4 Dominican College women's softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Wilmington University, this afternoon in games played at Asbury Field. DC won game one, 4-0 and took the night cap, 5-2 to improve to 23-13 overall and 12-5 in conference play.

New Castle, DE (4/17/11) The # 4 Dominican College women's softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Wilmington University, this afternoon in games played at Asbury Field. DC won game one, 4-0 and took the night cap, 5-2 to improve to 23-13 overall and 12-5 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers struck first with two runs in the top of the fourth inning as Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to score Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) who had led off the inning with a single to right field. Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) followed with an RBI single through the left side to score Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) and give DC a 2-0 lead.
Dominican added a run in the sixth inning on the sacrifice by Berzak and scored a run in the seventh as Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) scored n a passed ball for the 4-0 victory.
Childers improved to 13-5 with the complete game shut out, scattering five hits and nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Childers and Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) each had two hits in game one.
Game Two: Wilmington held a 2-0 lead after three innings of play when DC struck for a run in the fourth on the RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Childers to score Berzak, who had led off the inning with a double to right center field.
Dominican took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning as Wassmann hit an RBI groundout and Berzak hit an RBI single to left field.
The Lady Chargers added a run in the sixth and seventh inning for the 5-2 victory. In the sixth, Martinez hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to plate Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) and in the seventh Wassmann blasted a solo home run over the center field fence.
Right-handed pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) went the distance in the win, allowing two runs on six hits and six strikeouts to earn her 10th win of the season.
