#8 SOFTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH SWEEP OVER GRIFFINS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/27/13) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked eighth in the east region, ended regular season play with a double-header sweep over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at the DC Softball Field. Dominican rallied to take game one, 7-4 and won the nightcap, 9-1 in five innings.

Dominican rallied to take game one, 7-4 and won the nightcap, 9-1 in five innings.
Today marked the final home game for seniors: #6 Delaney Childers, #10 Julie Plante*, #14 Brielle Kerscher, #15 Ashley Corrao*, #20 Victoria LaPorte and #21 Kathryn Coles*.
Game One: Dominican trailed 4-0 going into the bottom half of the fifth inning when the team rallied with seven runs. After a lead off double by Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.), Plante brought her home with a two-run blast. Later Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) hit a one out two-run homer run to tie the game, 4-4.
Kerscher would later hit a key two out two-run double and Schwed had an RBI single en route to the 7-4 win.
Reliever Ragazzo got the win (9-5) in three innings of work, allowing one run on four hits.
Starter Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) went four innings in the no decision.
Childers and Kerscher each had two hits in the win.
Game Two: DC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on the squeeze bunt from rightfielder LaPorte. The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the third inning as Ragazzo hit an RBI single and Coles followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 3-0.
Dominican tacked on four more runs in the fourth as freshman Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) had an RBI single and Ragazzo followed with a big three-run homer to make the score 7-0.
The Griffins scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lady Chargers ended the game in the bottom stanza as Childers hit a two out RBI single for the final 9-1 score.
Childers got the win (15-8) after allowing one run on five hits and three strikeouts. She also led the team at the plate, going 4-4 with two runs scored.
Ragazzo finished with four RBIs in the game.
Following the games, the team honored the seniors in post-game celebration at the Hennessy Center.
