SOFTBALL ELIMINATED FROM CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lakewood, N.J. (5/3/13) The Dominican College softball team, the top seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament, was eliminated today following two losses in games played this afternoon. DC fell to the #2 Caldwell College, 5-3, and lost to #4 Georgian Court University, 7-1, to be eliminated from the championships.

(5/3/13) The Dominican College softball team, the top seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament, was eliminated today following two losses in games played this afternoon. DC fell to the #2 Caldwell College, 5-3, and lost to #4 Georgian Court University, 7-1, to be eliminated from the championships.
Game One: The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added three more runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-0.
Dominican got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) hit a solo home run to right field. In the fifth, a single through the left side from Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) brought home a run and made the score 5-2.
The Lady Chargers scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as shortstop Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) hit a one out home run to left field for the final 5-3 score.
Childers and Berzak each had two hits in the loss.
Childers suffered the loss (15-9) in two innings of work, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits.
Game Two: The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but DC got on the board in the third inning on the sacrifice fly ball from Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Four wins for GCU in the sixth secured the 7-1 win.
Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) suffered the loss (6-5) in five and 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits.
The Lady Chargers now stand at 32-20 overall and will await word on an at-large bid to the NCAA East Regional Tournamen which will be announced Monday.
