Little Ferry, N.J. (4/23/19) The Dominican College softball team completed a sweep over CACC conference opponent the Bloomfield College Bears. The Lady Chargers took game one by a score of 3-0 and secured the sweep with a 7-2 win in game two.
The Lady Chargers improve to 20-17 (15-7 CACC) and the Bears fall to 11-24 (8-14 CACC) on the season.
Game One: The game went scoreless over the first four innings. DC took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning and add one run in the sixth inning on their way to the 3-0 win.
Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) drove in the first run with an RBI single and Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0. Alyssa Schwalb (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) added an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI single.
Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) earned her ninth win of the season in seven innings of work. Rajene Bowe finished the game with three hits. Shailei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) added two hits in the win.
Game Two: DC jumped out on top early with one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning. The Bears cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third inning.
The Lady Chargers extended their lead in the fourth inning and then extended to a 7-1 lead in the seventh inning. The Bears added a run in the bottom of the seventh but the Lady Chargers secured the 7-2 victory.
Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) had three hits, two RBI and scored one run. Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) had one hit and two RBI. Kraft finished with two RBI and one hit. Rajene Bowe added two hits, one RBI, and scored two runs. Melanie Uschock (Greensburg, Pa.) pitched a complete seven innings to earn the win.
Delanie Cruz and Mya Lopez each drove in one RBI for the Bears.
DC will be back in action tomorrow, April 24th when they visit Concordia College for a conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM and game two will follow at 5:00 PM.
