SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY, EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO FIVE GAMES

Philadelphia, Pa. (3/30/21) The Dominican College softball team earned a sweep over the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University.

Philadelphia, Pa. (3/30/21) The Dominican College softball team earned a sweep over the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University. The Lady Chargers defeated the Rams 6-2 in game one and then 8-5 in game two.

After the sweep, DC extended their current winning streak to five games and improve to 7-7 (7-1 CACC). Jefferson falls to 3-3 (3-3 CACC).

Game One: DC jumped out in front early in the first inning with an RBI double by Andrea Hester (Yorba Linda, Calif.). The Rams answered back with one run in the third inning after Emily Akelaitis hit an RBI single.

The Lady Chargers blew the game open in the fifth inning when they put up five runs to extend their lead to 6-1. Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) hit an RBI single while Andrea Hester drove in her second RBI of the game.

Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) finished off the big inning for DC with a two-RBI double.

The Rams added one run in the seventh inning, but DC closed out the 6-2 win.

Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) took the mound for the Lady Chargers and earned the win to improve to 2-2 on the season. Smith recorded six strikeouts in the win.

Samantha Carbonara (Newark, Del.) entered the game in relief and earned three strikeouts.

Game Two: The Lady Chargers jumped out in front in the third inning with three runs.

Shannon Knipl (Stony Point, N.Y.), Kamryn Raya (Corona, Calif.), and Alyssa Siess each recorded RBI singles.

The Rams cut the deficit to 3-2 when Emily Akelaitis and Sam Gomez drove in one RBI each.

DC extended their lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning when Raya added her second RBI of the game and Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) doubled for two RBI's.

Andrea Hester added to the lead with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Akelaitis hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 8-4. The Rams added one more run in the fifth inning when Cayla Kalani singled a run home to make the score 8-5.

Journey Limardo (Anaheim, Calif.) earned the win to improve to 4-1. Samantha Carbonara recorded her first save of the season.

The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action on Monday, April 5th when they host Molloy College for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 PM and game two will follow at 4:30 PM.
