LADY CHARGERS TAKE GAME ONE IN SPLIT WITH LIONS

Lakewood, N.J. (4/17/25) The Dominican University New York softball team split a CACC doubleheader with the Lions of Georgian Court University this afternoon. 

The Lady Chargers took game one by a score of 9-3 and then the Lions bounced back to take game two by a score of 7-0. 

DU now stands at 15-26 overall and 10-10 in conference play while the Lions now hold a record of 12-22 overall and 7-9 in the CACC.

Game One: DU starting pitcher Emily Baxter recorded her 11th win of the season, which is a career high, after throwing a complete game allowing three earned runs and struck out two. 

Both teams traded runs in the first inning with DU's first run of the game coming on an RBI-single by Adriana Barnes. Isabella Mitterando regained the DU lead with a sac fly in the top of the second. 

Toni-Jo Lopez followed with an RBI-single to extend the lead to 3-1. DU added two runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Nicole Mata and then rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh.

Barnes capped off a 3-3, three-RBI game with a two-run homer after also adding a double earlier. Mia Valverde singled in the eighth run and then Mitterando doubled in her second run of the game for the 9-3 lead. 

Game Two: The Lions bounced back in game two after a 7-0 win to secure a split with the Lady Chargers. 

Janelle Blaszka pitched a complete game shutout for the Lions to improve to 8-8 on the season. Blaszka surrendered five hits and recorded two strikeouts. Gianna Barbieri started for the Lady Chargers and suffered the loss. 

GCU jumped in front early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lions extended their lead in the third inning with two runs and one run in the fourth inning on their way to the 7-0 victory.

Brooklyn Ragland led the way for GCU going 3-3 and drove in four RBIs. Ella Moore went 2-2 and drove in two RBIs while Kristy Regaldo also added on RBI.

Chloe McIntosh went 2-4 in game two while Emma Kaszovitz added a double. Emily Angulo and Mitterando each added one hit.

The Lady Chargers return to action next Tuesday for Senior Day and the 2025 regular season finale at home against Chestnut Hill College.
