Winter Haven, Fla. (3/4/26) The Dominican University New York softball squad fell in action today at THE Spring Games as they lost to Eckerd College and Wheeling University in games played today at THE Spring Games. The Lady Chargers lost to the Tritons, 9-3 and were edge 5-4 by the Cardinals.
The Lady Chargers now stand at 0-8 on the season.
Game One: The Tritons scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning for the early lead before DUNY scored a run in the third on the run-scoring single to right fielder by shortstop Gianna Longo.
Dominican added a run in the fourth on a wild pitch, but EC countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
A Lady Charger run in the sixth on the RBI sacrifice fly ball off the bat of Deja Robinson made the score 5-3, however the Tritons tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the eventual 9-3 win.
Johnson went 4-4 in the game, while Longo and Isabella Mitterando had three hits each in the loss.
Starter Emily Baxter took the loss in three innings of work.
Game Two: The game was scoreless through three innings of play when the Cardinals struck for five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Dominican got on the board in the bottom stanza on the RBI single to centerfield off the bat of Layla Albarran.
The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the fifth inning as Kindel Johnson hit an RBI single to right field and one batter later Deja Robinson scored on a wild pitch. The last run of the game came off a run-scoring single to left field by Albarran for the fina 5-4 score.
Albarran finished the game with three hits, while Nicole Mata collected two hits in the loss.
Starter Jenna Jump suffered the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Friday at THE Spring Games when they take on Wayne State (Neb.) and Northwood University.
