Nutley, N.J. (4/1/26) The Dominican University New York softball team suffered two losses to Felician University today in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, hosted by the Golden Falcons.
Felician rallied to win the first game, 4-3, and scored runs in the last three innings of the nightcap to take home the 6-5 win.
Following the games, the Lady Chargers are now 2-18 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second as catcher Layla Albarran blasted a solo home run. The Lady Chargers added to the lead in the third as third basemen Nicole Mata hit a home run of her own to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the fifth, pitcher Gianna Longo hit a run-scoring single to left field to give DUNY the 3-0 lead. Felician countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game in the sixth on a run-scoring double.
The bottom of the seventh saw the Golden Falcons load the bases and then score a run in an infield single to lift them to teh 4-3 win.
Mata, Albarran, Isabella Mitterando and Kindel Johnson all had two hits in the loss.
Longo suffered the complete game loss and striking out four batters.
Game Two: Felician scored a run in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 advantage, but the Chargers rallied in the second with an RBI ground out and a triple off-the-bat of Mia Valverde to gain a 2-1 edge. DUNY added two more runs in the third on the RBI double down the left field line by Longo and a run-scoring single to right field from Emily Angulo to take a 4-1 lead.
A single by Albarran in the top of the fifth scored Johnson to increase the lead to 5-1. The Golden Falcons rallied with two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4. Felician tied the game with a home run in the seventh and later won the game on a sacrifice fly ball for the 6-5 win.
Mata, Johnson, Longo and Albarran had two hits each.
Reliever Emily Null suffered the loss in two innings of work. Starter Victoria Iorio went 4 2/3 innings in the no decision.
Dominican is scheduled to return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Thomas Jefferson University.
