Rockville Centre, N.Y. (4/18/26) The Dominican University New York softball team visited the Lions of Molloy University for a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Bob Klein Field.
The Lions edged the Lady Chargers 5-4 in game one and then earned the sweep with a 9-1 victory in game two.
Game One: The Lions jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning and added a fourth run in the second inning.
The Lady Chargers got on the board in the third inning after starting pitcher Gianna Longo drove in DU's first run on an RBI-groundout.
Later in the game in the fourth inning Dominican rallied for three runs to tie the game at 4-4. Adrianna DeValerio picked up an RBI on a bunt single to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Nicole Mata doubled in Dominican's third run of the game and Kindel Johnson followed with a sac fly that tied the game.
The Lions regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning on an RBI-groundout. The score would remain 5-4 and Molloy pitcher Ava Zicchinelli picked up the win.
Jenna Jump entered the game in relief for the Lady Chargers and picked up three strikeouts but suffered the loss.
Game Two: The Lions jumped in front first in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 lead.
Dominican cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning with an RBI-single by Johnson.
The Lions rallied for four runs in the third inning and then followed with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth on their way to the 9-1 win in five innings.
Skyler Secondino picked up the win for the Lions while Victoria Iorio suffered the loss for the Lady Chargers.
Mata, Johnson, Emily Angulo, and Jenna Jump each recorded hits for the Lady Chargers in game two.
Dominican is scheduled to return home on Tuesday against Cldwell University for Senior Day.
