Philadelphia, Pa. (4/27/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Chestnut Hill College, in games played today at the CHC Softball Field. Dominican won the first game, 6-3, but fell in the nightcap, 8-7.
Dominican now stands at 3-31 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
Game One: CHC led 2-0 through three innings, but the Lady Chargers got on the board in the fourth as senior Emily Angulo hit a two-run single to left field to make the score 2-2. The Griffins got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Dominican countered again with a three run top of the fifth to reclaim the lead. Gianna Long got things going with an RBI single up-the-middle and senior Nicole Mata followed with a two-run single to center field for a 5-3 advantage.
The Lady Chargers added to the lead in the sixth as graduate student Deja Robinson hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to bring home Isabella Mitterando and give DUNY the 6-3 lead and eventual win.
Robinson and Kindel Johnson each had two hits, while Mata and Angulo each had two RBIs in the victory.
Reliever Victoria Iorio picked up the win and Emily Null earned her first save of the year.
Game Two: Dominican struck for two runs in the top of the first on back-to-back hits from Johnson and Longo for the early lead. CHC answered back in the bottom of the first with three runs to go up, 3-2. In the top of the third, Longo hit a two-run single to push ahead 4-3.
The Grffins countered in the bottom of the third with five runs on three hits and one error to claim an 8-4 advantage. Dominican got two runs back on run-scoring hits from Robinson and Johnson to cut the deficit to 8-6.
Johnson brought the team to within a run in the top of the sixth as Johnson delivered a run-scoring single to centerfield for the eventual 8-7 score.
Johnson went 4-4 in the game with three RBIs. Longo had three RBIs, to go along with two hits. Iorio, Robinson and Adrianna DeValerio all had two hits in the loss.
Starter Melanie Fiumara took the loss.
Dominican wraps up the 2026 this season on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Bridgeport.
