LADY CHARGERS SURVIVE LATE RALLY TO DEFEAT NYACK COLLEGE IN OVERTIME
Orangeburg, NY (1/27/09) Junior guard Kelsy McIntosh (North Pole, AK) hit a huge three point basket with 0:05 left in regulation to force overtime, but the Lady Chargers outscored the Warriors 15-11 in overtime to hang on to a 68-64 victory this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Orangeburg, NY (1/27/09) Junior guard Kelsy McIntosh (North Pole, AK) hit a huge three point basket with 0:05 left in regulation to force overtime, but the Lady Chargers outscored the Warriors 15-11 in overtime to hang on to a 68-64 victory this evening on Coach Baxter Court.
Both teams struggled in the first half as DC went into the intermission with a 22-13 lead despite shooting just 9-33 (27.3%) from the floor and 2-12 (16.7%) from beyond the three point arc. Nyack finished the half shooting just 4-21 (19.0%) from the floor and 1-8 (12.5%) from three point land.
The Lady Chargers led by as many as 12 points, 36-24 with 11:04 remaining when the Warriors battled back with a 15-4 run to cut the defecit to one point, 40-39 as sophomore forward Victoria Sweet (Harlem, NY) netted back to back three point buckets. Dominican answered with a 5-0 run to rebuild a 45-39 advantage but Nyack answered back with 9-2 spurt to take a 48-47 lead with just under two minutes to go. Dominican was up 53-50 with 0:28 left when McIntosh connected with a trey at the top of the key to knot the game at 53-53 and force overtime.
Trailing 64-63 with 1:02 left in overtime Lady Charger Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) went 3-4 at the charity stripe in a span of fifty seconds to put Dominican up 66-64 and sophomore forward Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) closed out the game converting two free throws and propel DC to the 68-64 victory.
Junior guard Jasmine Mintor (Richmond, VA) led the Warriors with 15 points and had eight caroms in the loss. McIntosh finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while forwards Sweet and Shelly Yount Belvidere, NJ) netted 13 points a pice and combined for 11 rebounds respectively.
Chambers finished with a career high 29 points and had six rebounds for the Lady Chargers. Freshman guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) netted 13 points and four assists, while senior center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) scored seven points and had a game leading 10 boards in the win.
With the victory Dominican improves to 10-8 overall and 7-1 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 7-9 overall and 1-6 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they host Caldwell College in CACC women's action. Game time is slated for 6pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
