FIRST PLACE LADY CHARGERS TOP FELICIAN COLLEGE
Rutherford, NJ (2/4/09) The visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball squad, who is in first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division, topped Felician College, 64-57 this evening at Job Gymnasium.
Rutherford, NJ (2/4/09) The visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers basketball squad, who is in first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division, topped Felician College, 64-57 this evening at Job Gymnasium.
Dominican was able to force the action on offense to the tune of 37 free-throw attempts. The Chargers outscored Felician, 26-12, at the foul line, to offset 32-percent shooting from the floor.
The first half saw Felician recover from an early 14-5 deficit to trail, 27-26 at halftime. Still ahead by one with 13:35 left in regulation, the Chargers embarked on a 12-1 run over the next five minutes to take control. The Golden Falcons cut what was a 15-point deficit to seven on three occasions, but all came in the final minute.
Junior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) (3-3 3FG, 5-6 FT) led Dominican with 16 points off the bench, while junior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) joined four Charger double-figure scorers with 13 points, and teammate Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (10-15 FT) had 12. Sophomore Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) went 5 for 5 from the floor to finish with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Junior Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ posted game highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds in defeat for Felician., while Shannon Gilmartin (Port Monmouth, NJ) matched a season high with 10 points.
With the victory Dominican improves to 12-9 overall and 9-2 in the CACC, regaining the top spot in the CACC North, while Felican falls to 3-17 overall and 1-9 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they host Wilmington University in CACC action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Game time is 1pm for the Sue Heller Game.
