CHAMBERS NETS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AS LADY CHARGERS CHARGE PAST BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (2/10/09) Senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) netted her 1,000th career point with 5:19 remaining in the game to lead the Lady Chargers to a 76-57 victory over visiting Bloomfield College this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Deacons jumped out to a 22-13 lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half, but the Lady Chargers charged back with a 20-6 run to close out the first half and take a 32-28 lead into the intermission.
Dominican never trailed in the second half, outscoring Bloomfield 44-29 in the second half. DC shot 60.0% (15-25) from the floor in the second stanza, while BC struggled shooting just 32.1% (9-28). The Lady Chargers shot 54.2% (26-48) for the game, while the Deacons shot 36.8% (21-57). Dominican went 5-9 (55.6%) from the three point line, while Bloomfield was 2-13 (15.4%).
Junior guard Jaleesa Coleman (Pleasantville, NY) came off the bench to led three Deacons in double figures with the team's only double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, MD) also came off the bench to net 11 points, while Milani Malik (Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 points in the loss.
Chambers led all scorers with 27 points (12-13 from the charity stripe), grabbed a career high 15 rebounds and led teh team with four steals in the win. Junior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while freshman guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) added nine points. Freshman Megan Murphy (Carmel, NY) had seven points off the bench.
Dominican improves to 14-9 overall and 11-2 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 12-10 overall and 9-4 in the CACC.
Tonight was the Nets for Nets game at DC where the women's basketball team raised $147.00 for the Catholic Relief Services. For every made field goal tonight (21), the athletic department donated $7.00 to provide mosquito nets to prevent Malaria in Africa or Southeast Asia.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia University. Game time is 2pm.
