LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL FALL TO MOLLOY COLLEGE LIONS
Rockville Centre, NY (11/25/08) Knotted at 48-all going into the extra session, the Molloy College women's basketball team rolled off a 9-3 burst during the overtime session to record its third victory in a row in come-from-behind order with a 59-51 decision on Tuesday night at the Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the victory, the Lions went to 3-0 overall on the year. As for the Chargers, they dropped to a .500 winning percentage at 2-2.

Rockville Centre, NY (11/25/08) Knotted at 48-all going into the extra session, the Molloy College women's basketball team rolled off a 9-3 burst during the overtime session to record its third victory in a row in come-from-behind order with a 59-51 decision on Tuesday night at the Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the victory, the Lions went to 3-0 overall on the year. As for the Chargers, they dropped to a .500 winning percentage at 2-2.
The run was started by a lay-up from senior forward Katelyn Dunn (Bethpage, N.Y.) at the 4:04 mark. One minute later, junior guard Clarissa Jones (Boston, Mass.) drained a jumper from the elbow. The nail in the coffin came with 2:15 to go as junior guard Lisa Abitante (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked down a three-ball, while falling down. Jones then wrapped up the burst with four points off of a jay and two made free throws.
Prior to overtime, Molloy trailed Dominican in the second half by a 48-43 count with under two minutes left in regulation. Then, the Lions rallied with five unanswered points to knot the match up. Jones and Abitante had jumpers, while Jones netted a pair of clutch shots from the free-throw line with 35 seconds left. The Chargers had a chance to win the game as they controlled the ball with three seconds to go. But, Dominican turned the ball over on the inbound throw.
Dominican opened up the latter stanza up 25-18 with over 19 minutes remaining. Molloy followed by going on an 11-2 streak over a span of 3:09 to tie the match up at 29-29. Dunn registered the first three points on a lay-up and a free-throw shot. Jones continued with a lay-up. Junior forward Kymira Woodberry (Boston, Mass.) and junior guard E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) closed it out with back-to-back jays. The two teams proceeded to trade baskets afterwards until the last two minutes, where the Lions began to mount their comeback.
In the first half, the two squads were tied at 8-all with just under 12 minutes left. After that, the Chargers notched a 9-0 run in a three-minute stretch to grab hold of a nine-point advantage (17-8) with 8:26 left. Freshman guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) knocked down a three-ball. Freshman forward Marley Klunk (York, PA), senior forward/center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ.) and senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) each put in a deuce. Shortly thereafter, Dominican headed into the locker room ahead by a 25-18 score.
For the game, Molloy shot 37.1 percent (23-for-62) from the field and 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the stripe. Woodberry amassed a double-double with 16 points (6-15 FG) and 16 rebounds. She also passed six assists and swiped three steals. Jones collected 14 points with two assists and one steal. Dunn recorded 11 points, seven boards, two assists and one steal. Dreyer had 10 points and five steals
As for the Chargers, they were 16-of-52 (30.8 percent) from the floor and 16-of-29 (55.2 percent) from the foul line. Chambers scored a team-leading 14 points and grabbed down nine rebounds. She also dished off five assists. Junior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) compiled 12 points, four steals, three boards and two assists. Junior guard/forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) added eight points and five rebounds, while Burgess raked in eight rebounds, five points and two steals.
Dominican is back in action on December 4th when they travel to Nyack Colllege in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.
