Nyack, NY (12/4/08) The Dominican College women's basketball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 70-62 victory over Nyack College this evening.
The Lady Chargers held a 28-25 advantage at the intermission and exploded for 42 points in the second half for a 70-62 victory.
Jasmine Mintor led Nyack with 18 points and a team leading seven assists. Victoria Sweet had the team's only double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Dominican was led by senior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) with a season high 19 points and a team leading five assists. Junior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) had 18 points (shooting 50% from the three point arc) and four steals, while senior center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) netted 15 points and had a team leading 10 caroms in the win.
The free throw line played a crucial role in the game as the Warriors shot only 52.4% (11-21), compared to the Lady Chargers who shot 76.5% (13-17) from the charity stripe.
With the victory Dominican improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on December 13th when they host Georgian Court University in CACC women's basketball action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Game time is 1pm.
