WOMEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (12/28/08) The Dominican College women's basketball team upended the visiting Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 67-64 this afternoon on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center in non-conference womens basketball action.

DC used a 7-2 spurt late in the first half to build up a ten point lead, 31-21, en route to a 37-28 lead at the break. Junior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) was on fire, shooting 8-11 from the floor to lead all scorers with a 19 point first half performance.
The Owls fought back in the second half with 15-6 run to cut the Lady Charger lead to 41-40 with 15:03 to go. Dominican regained a five point advantage, but SCSU once again rallied to tie the game at 53-53 with just under seven minutes remaining. A three point bucket by freshman Alex Fiola (Fall River, MA) put the Owls up 58-55 with 5:25 to go, but DC end the game with a 12-6 run for the 67-64 victory.
The Owls had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Lexi Allen (Southbury, CT) with 22 points, shooting 5-9 from the three point line and a team leading six assists. Sophomore Logan Lentz (Chambersburg, PA) netted 13 points and five assists, while forward Jacqueline Johannes (Southbury, CT) had the game's only double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
Laskowski led all scorers with a season high 27 points and four steals. Senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) netted 12 points, five rebounds and three steals, while freshman Marley Klunk (York, PA) had a team leading seven caroms. Sophomore Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) game off the bench to have a team leading six assists in the win.
With the victory the Lady Chargers improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Owls all to 4-6 overall.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to American International College for a non-conference game slated to begin at 3pm. DC will also be in action on New Year's Eve against Stonehill College. Game time is slated for 2pm.
