Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/2/19) Senior Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) netted a career high 21 points (8-12, 4-7 from 3pt arc) to lead the Dominican College women's basketball team to a 77-58 victory over the visiting Warriors of Nyack College on Senior Day on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Prior to the start of the contest, the team honored seniors: #2 Talyor Nelson (Piscataway, N.J.), #22 Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.), #23 Brittany Stone (Paramus, N.J.), #24 Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) and #12 Shayna Eckert who was part of Team Impact and has been with the team the last three years.
At halftime, the Annual Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship award winner was announced and this year's recipient was #4 Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.).
Dominican ends the regular season with an overall record of 16-12 and a 14-5 record in conference play.
Rivera led all scorers with 21 points.
Sophomore Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) netted 17 points, while Parker tallied 12 points.
Nelson dished out a career high and game best seven assists, while Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) grabbed a team high six rebounds.
Nyack was led by Elle Nittinger and Kyla Given who scored 15 points each.
The Lady Chargers used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 15-6 advantage and ended the quarter with a 22-13 advantage.
Nyack would cut the lead to 35-31 with under four minutes to play in the first half, but DC would end the half on a 10-3 spurt to pull in front, 45-34, at the break.
Guerra led the team with 11 first half points.
DC would secure the victory in the third quarter as they outscored the Warriors, 17-6, to jump in front 62-40 and went on to the 77-58 win.
Dominican, the top seed in the North Division, will began Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament play this coming Tuesday evening when they host #3S Goldey-Beacom College in a quarterfinal contest. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the men's game.
