ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE EDGES WOMEN'S LACROSSE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
Hillburn, NY (4/18/11) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference road game to St. Thomas Aquinas College, 14-12, this afternoon in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. With the loss Dominican falls to 6-6 overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas College improves to 3-5.

Junior midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) led the Lady Chargers with four goals. Sophomore Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) added three goals,while Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Maggie Brocklebank (Long Branch, NJ) each scored two goals a-piece in the loss.
Freshman goalie Amanda Caprio (Point Pleasant, NJ) made seven saves.
STAC netted the first goal of the game just 0:43 seconds into the contest, but the Lady Chargers went on a 3-0 run to go up 3-1 with 24:50 to play in the first half. Fiorvanti netted back-to-back goals, with an assist awarded to senior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) on the second goal. Williams netted her first goal of the game to close out the DC run.
The Spartans answered back with 4-0 run to re-take the lead at 5-3 with 8:40 on the clock before the break. Brocklebank and Karlsen scored consecutive goals for the Lady Chargers with Karlsen's goal coming with just 0:02 to play in the first half.
Dominican continued on their run with the first four goals of the second half to cap off a 6-0 run to go ahead 9-5 with 21:51 to go. Williams netted the first three goals of the half, all on free position shots and Brocklebank netted the unassisted goal.
A STAC goal broke up the run, but two more free positiong goals off the sticks of Karlsen and Traci-Joan Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) regained an 11-6 Lady Charger advantage. Two straight goals by the Spartans cut the lead to 11-8 with 10:31 to go, but Fiorvanti used a pass from Karlsen to net a goal to put Dominican ahead 12-8.
St. Thomas Aquinas closed out regulation with a 4-0 run to tie the contest at 12-12, with the last goal coming with just 23 ticks left on the clock.
In the overtime periods, the Spartans netted a goal in each of the two three minute periods to go on to the 14-12 victory.
